Recent Study Finds CBT Most Effective for Treating Panic Disorder

In a recent article published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and 2 other forms of psychotherapy (Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Applied Relaxation Training) were used in a sample of 201 patients.  CBT was found to be the best way to treat panic and anxiety disorders.  Additionally, the patients receiving CBT were less likely to drop out of treatment.  Authors hypothesize that this may be attributed to the fact that the other 2 treatment modalities “just didn’t help them enough to keep them in treatment”.
